EcoDepots

In mid 2005 TerraNova formed a company called Meta NZ Ltd to take over management of the city’s three refuse stations (now called EcoDepots) from Christchurch City Council. This change in management took place on July 1st.

The aim of the change in operation is to gradually move the focus of stations from collecting waste to recovering resources for further use. The scheme is a first for New Zealand.

In March-April 2006 the three refuse stations - at Metro Place, Parkhouse Road and Styx Mill - become EcoDepots. As EcoDepots they will actively sort material brought into them - and encourage customers to do the same - and divert it from landfill.

A period of transiton is required to make all of the planned changes, but improvements are being introduced in stages.

Meanwhile you can check out details of the EcoDepots by clicking on the image above.
